Theatrical machines play a central role regarding the effects on the audience and the creation of illusion. In order to contribute to the understanding of the seventeenth-century machine theatre in France, this article identifies information gaps concerning the mechanical arrangement in the dramatic text of Molière’s “Psyché” and reflects on possible solutions by taking into account interpolation and simulation as clarification device.
