The fact that theatre terms are also used metaphorically as explanatory patterns has a long tradition. For this reason, research into the historical semantics of theatre terms appears to be of particular relevance, especially in the age of digital media change with its virtualisation effects. In a pilot study, this article explores the possibilities of using digital methods for such historical semantics, using the term “stage” as an example.
