Phantasma der Fülle. Zur Funktion des Imaginären in der Literatur des 18. Jahrhunderts (‚Himmelslyrik‘, Klopstock, Goethe) Beitrag

Carsten Rohde

Comparatio, Jahrgang 6 (2014), Ausgabe 1, Seite 137 - 157

In traditional metaphysics the idea of ‚Fülle‘ (‚fullness‘) is an attribute of God and his perfection. In the light of the modern process of secularization the form and function of this idea changes: in 18th century literature ‚Fülle‘ becomes a part of the imaginary and functions as a domain in which both the individual and the whole culture reflect and negotiate the implications and problems, caused by the massive upheaval in the metaphysical and religious order.

Umlauf der modernen Seele. Modelle von Subjektivität und Totalität bei Nietzsche und Goethe Beitrag

Carsten Rohde

Comparatio, Jahrgang 5 (2013), Ausgabe 1, Seite 91 - 114

Goethe as well as Nietzsche are of crucial significance for the modern discourse on subjectivity, in so far as they both design models of identity on a narrative and a philosophical level, which on the one hand reflect the modern phenomena of contingency and alienation, on the other, however, conserve or re-establish moments of totality and abundance. Modern artists such as Joseph Beuys and Jonathan Meese recur to this tradition of a modernity characterized by abundance in order to further develop it in the direction of a post-humanistic aesthetics of radical potentiality.
