Elija und die prophetische Existenz Jesu in neutestamentlichen Modellversuchen

Karl Matthias Schmidt

Pages 209 - 224

Particular sayings of Jesus admit the assumption that the early Jesus tradition expressed the idea of good life as discipleship with recourse to Elijah and Elisha to find one’s calling in view of examples in the past. Early Christian literature, by name the gospels of Mark and Luke, modelled this pattern in different ways to emphasize the singularity of the saviour’s life. Thus, the exemplarity of prophetic characters got lost. The exemplariness of Jesus’s life was instead featured by celebrating the idea of carrying the own cross in view of an eternal life or by encouraging to break with bread and butter or the family for a better subsistence in future times.
